Cell Organelle- Lysosome

Lysosomes is a cell organelle that is a specific component of cell that acts as a 'Waste Disposal System' inside the cell.

STRUCTURE

Lysosomes are single membrane bound structure.

They are irregularly shaped sacs.

Synthesized by Golgi Apparatus.

FUNCTIONS:

1.Storage of Powerful Digestive Enzymes.

2. It removes out the worn-out cell organelles and debris 'Waste Disposal System'

3. Breakdown of complex molecules into simple ones.

4. Suicidal Bags- On cellular disturbance, lysosomes burst and releases its content outside and eat up the cell components.

Degradation of Intracellular components is called as Autophagy.

5.Some materials are routed to lysosomes by vesicles called endosomes that bring materials in from the cell membrane—a process called endocytosis.

6. Digested materials are then used by the cell or excreted through a process called exocytosis.

7.The inside of a lysosome has a lower pH than the rest of the cell and the digestive enzymes the lysosome uses are only active in an acidic environment.
