  • Rhyniophytes are the earliest vascular plant but now extinct group.
  • In Devonian period but no fossil appears after Devonian Period.
  • Morphological features:
  • They Lacks Roots but have Rhizome (Underground stem) with unicellular Rhizoids.(Similar to Ferns)
  • Have a central column of xylem running through its stems, but no true tracheid cells.
  • Have Aerial Sporangia. (Similar to Mosses)
  • Have Dichotomous Branching.
