What are Synthetic Varieties

  • Synthetic varieties are the variety of plant produced by intercrossing several inbreed lines to create variations.
  • Synthetic varieties are created by combining various lines or populations through  intercrossing by (GCA) or for combining ability with one another.

Steps INVOLVED:

  • STEP 1: Testing the plants for GCA
  • STEP 2: Plants having High GCA were selected.
  • STEP 3: The chosen parental lines having High GCA are intercrossed.
  • STEP 4: Equal number of seeds from all Parents were combined and planted.
  • STEP 5: Then the Open Pollinated seeds harvested as SYNTHETIC VARIETY
