Plant Hormones, Properties of plant hormones, Difference between Hormones and Plant Growth Regulators Easy and Simple notes.

What are Plant Hormones?

Plant Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate various functions such as growth, metabolism, reproduction, and development of a plant.

Properties of Plant Hormones:

  • Plant hormones have no specific target cells unlike animal hormones.
  • Produced and effective in small concentrations
  • They travel from one part to another via xylem or Cellular transport.
  • On reaching the desired target the hormone regulates their function, Like Auxin leads to cell elongation, Cytokinin leads to cell Division, ABA causes Seed Dormancy, GA promote Seed Germination and JA targets on infected area etc.
  • Except ethylene, salicylic acid and abscisic acid, all plant hormones can exist in various forms in plants
Classification of Plant Hormones:

Plant hormones can be categorized into two categories:

  1. Growth Promoting Hormones: Auxin, CK, GA
  2. Growth Inhibiting Hormones: ABA, ET
